Backstory: Faith Lehane was born in the city of Boston to a single mother in the year 1981. The only child of an alcoholic mother, Faith was never treated well. As a baby she would often be left with her neighbours while her mother went out drinking in the vain hope of finding herself a man that would look after her and living happily ever after. Of course those dreams never came true for her, and she continued to rot in her working-class hell. Faith was regarded by her mother as a burden, even as an infant, and it was fair to say that most people could see how Faith's childhood was going to turn out.
As she started to grow, Faith made a few acquaintances in her neighbourhood, and would often roam around the streets with them for all hours. They were all in the same situation, usually living with a single alcoholic parent that didn't care much for what they did and where they went, so long as they were home by the time they needed some water to help with their hangovers the next morning. Though Faith would never call these other children her friends, they were the closest she would get to them for a very long time.
When Faith entered school, something her mother did simply to get the spirited young girl out of her hair for seven and a half hours a day, she found herself in a place she would grow to loathe. It seemed to the young girl that everyone there was smarter than her, richer than her, or just plain better than she was. Seeing all of these other children that actually had their parents show up to see them off on excursions and camps made the young Faith act out as a way to get attention. It usually only resulted in detentions, and as she moved further though school also started to result in frequent suspensions.
By the time Faith was thirteen she had blossomed into a rather pretty young girl, and started to get the attentions of some of the less savoury males that lived nearby. This of course went entirely unnoticed by her mother, who was far too busy collecting welfare cheques and drinking herself to death to notice what her daughter was getting up to behind closed doors. The boys that Faith 'dated' ranged from a kleptomaniac to wannabe goth rockers and slackers, none of whom were exactly the dream boys that mothers expected their daughters to bring home.
Faith dropped out of school when she was fifteen. Unsure of what to do with herself, she decided to try and find a job. Unfortunately for the tough young teenager, there were not too many bosses looking to hire a girl with an attitude quite like hers, and so for two and a half years she remained unemployed and virtually useless. It was during these two years that her mother went missing. She went out to a bar one night, once again to look for the man of her dreams and was never seen again. Later in life Faith would often refer to her mother as dead, an assumption that she made based on the fact that she never returned, and also because in reality, her mtoher was long dead to her anyway. Not wanting to move into foster care, Faith didn't inform anyone that she had vanished, and started collecting the welfare cheques herself using a fake ID that she had one of her aqquaintences make for her.
Faith was never tempted to go looking for her mother, the freedom that she suddenly found herself with was intoxicating. She no longer had to worry about what her mother would do if she got home drunk and angry, or any of the other things she had been made to live with most of her life. In a neighbourhood of 'don't ask, don't tell', no one ever noticed the young girl living on her own trying to make ends meet, and if they did, they chose not to say anything about it.
